Has anyone decreased their chronic back pain through exercise?

I only want to hear from people who have tried exercise as a treatment for chronic back pain. Did it work for you? Do you do cardio, weights or both? Which back-specific exercises helped? I need some motivation to start exercising but I don’t want to start unless I know it’s going to help.

I have a prolapsed disc and attended Pilate’s without knowing I had a prolapsed disc. Attended for nine months, once a week one hour and boy did it really help. Pilate’s works on the core strength, the corset of deep muscles in your tummy, abdomen, which are the muscles that hold you spine in place. If you allow those corset muscles to go slack, loose, then your spine will slip slid out of position and ouch. Once you learn the techniques of Pilate’s you have it for life and I still do one hour a week, keep the muscles tight. Best of Luck
